Emotional Freedom Technique
This technique was first documented by Dr Roger Callahan in his book
Tapping the Healer Within and further developed by Gary Craig into
Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT. It’s a very powerful technique that is
easily taught to clients so that it can be used at home which is where it
comes into its own. When you can use EFT on yourself, you can alleviate
symptoms wherever you are, whenever you wish. EFT is cumulative, so as
you tap, you are releasing the energy of your problem, thereby reducing its
negative effects.
EFT is closely related to acupuncture using the same meridian points and
similar underlying principals. Acupuncture is one of the complementary
therapies recognised by the NHS as being beneficial for certain health
problems, so acceptance of meridian energy therapies is growing within
modern medicine.
Benefits for clients
EFT is done in the conscious state, like having a normal conversation but
with acutapping as you chat. At home, you can repeat the tapping words
silently in your head. or out loud, it doesn’t matter. You don’t need peace
and quiet or plenty of free time. EFT can be used for a few minutes,
whenever you need it. EFT therapy is quick, pleasant and effective. As the
work is all done in the conscious state, some people feel more comfortable
using it over hypnotherapy when dealing with past trauma or very
emotional issues. EFT helps the client take control and release their
problems and once you have learned how to use it, you can try it on
everything (which is what Gary Craig urges us to do). EFT is an energy
technique so it makes you feel lighter, more energetic and more positive.
Therapist and client usually end up laughing - it’s that kind of technique!
Because of the extensive work Gary Craig put into developing EFT treatment
plans, we can help with serious and complex problems such as PTSD,
phobias, panic and anxiety disorder, uncontrolled anger … as well as
depression, stress and traumatic memories. There are also treatment plans
for serious illness and pain reduction.
Once the technique has been learned by the client and they have
successfully practised so I’m satisfied they are confident with using it at
home, we can develop an individualised EFT treatment plan which will work
on the specific issues in between appointments. In fact, everyone can
experience the benefits from a daily tapping session and it only takes a few
minutes each day. I practice what I preach and use EFT and other energy
therapies as part of my daily routine. Regular practice with energy therapy
does make you feel more energetic, more relaxed and less burdened down
with life’s worries.

works at an energy level. Life force
energy or Qi/Chi can affect emotions,
thoughts, habits, beliefs and
behaviours. By releasing unwanted
negative energy (in whatever form) you
can feel lighter and therefore more
energetic. It’s hard to explain it in
words … you have to experience it for
yourself. When you work with a
professional who has been using EFT
for many years, you really do get a
profound sense of what this amazing
technique can achieve. Then you
practice … and practice and practice …
and soon you’ll be able to take control
of your own emotions, thoughts,
habits, beliefs and behaviours. That is
very powerful healing!
